Maine Parkinson Society was founded in 1998 with a vision to improve the quality of life for Maine people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The society was founded by Karen Bardo, when newly diagnosed with young onset PD, who identified the need to build public awareness for PD, to provide support and services to improve the quality of life for Maine People living with PD and their families.

Maine Parkinson Society provides respite care to Maine families with Parkinson Disease. Please look under our respite care tab for more information.

The Maine Parkinson Society and the Maine Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) work closely together to bring high quality services through The Parkinson's Information & Referral Center. The Center is housed at MaineHealth’s Learning Resource Center in Falmouth and is a collaborative effort of National and Maine Chapters of the (APDA) and MaineHealth.
